RODEN NEWELL CARUTHERS Class of 56

Roden Newell Caruthers, age 66, of Lockhart died Wednesday, January 8, 2003. He was born on September 6, 1936 to Roden and Nannie (Bluhm) Caruthers. Mr. Caruthers is survived by his brother, Douglas Caruthers and wife, Gene of Houston. A graveside service was held Friday, January 10, 2003 at 11:00 at Lockhart City Cemetery. Survices under the direction of McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan Street, Lockhart, Texas 78644.



EMMA JEAN PESTER Class of 56

August 5, 1938 ... February 11, 2002

Mrs. Emma Jean Pester Goode, 63, of Lockhart died February 11, 2002 at the Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos. Mrs. Goode was born August 5, 1938 in Troy, Texas to Bill and Ila Bozarth Pester.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. February 13, in the Chapel of Eeds Funeral Home with Rev. David Dossey officiating. Interment followed in the Bateman Cemetery in Bastrop County.

Mrs. Goode is survived by her sons, Kenneth Goode of Lockhart and Don Hemphill and his wife Sheri of Pflugerville; grandchidlren, Katelynn Goode, Dalton Goode, Matthew Hemphill, and Madison Hemphill. Mrs. Goode was preceded in death by her father, Bill Pester and her brother, Billy Don Pester.

WESLEY SEELIGER Class of 56

February 2, 1938 ... May 3, 2000

The Reverend Marvin Wesley Seeliger (Wes), 62, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after a long illness.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in Houston at the Hermann Park Chinese Pavilion by the Rose Garden. Claire Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements; his ashes will be scattered at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to The Foundation for Contemporary Theology, 4027 Lanark Lane, Houston, Tx 77025.

Wes was born in Lockhart, Texas, February 2, 1938, to Florin Henry and Emma Rosener Seeliger. As a teenager in Lockhart he was a member of the First Methodist Church when the Reverend Lawrence K. Brown was pastor. Both Reverend Brown and his wife were influential in his decision to dedicate his life to the Church. . He was a graduate of Lockhart High School, the University of Texas (Austin), and the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. He also attended Perkins School of Theology.

He was ordained at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station where he was Chaplain to the Episcopal students at Texas A&M. In Houston he was Rector of the Church of the Advent and was the founder and Executive Director of the Foundation for Contemporary Theology at the time of his death.

Wes was also an artist, a cartoonist, and the author/illustrator of two books, One Inch from the Fence and Western Theology. For many years he wrote a newspaper column, "The Tall Texan."

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ruth Wolfe Seeliger; stepmother, Alice Seeliger of New Braunfels; two children from a previous marriage to Jennifer Bown; son, Scott Seeliger of Austin and daughter Kim Seeliger Palermo and her husband Rock of Sulphur, Louisiana; stepdaughters, Michele Durant Lewandowski and her husband Bradley of Oxford, Michigan, and Christine Durant of Hpuston; sister, Sharon Seeliger Boynton and her husband Bob of Iowa City, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Boyce Ellison; stepson, Thomas Arthur Durant, and the aunt and uncle in whose home he was reared, Gussie and O. W. Vogel.

JANICE (HUTCHESON) EHRLICH Class of 54

Janice Ehrlich, 53, of Lockhart died Sunday, Jan. 14, 1990. She was born in McMahan, Feb. 8, 1936, the daughter of Amos and Lilly Jewel Stephens Hutcheson.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Ehrlich of Lockhart; daughter, Evelene Johnson of Lockhart; mother, Lilly Jo Hickman of Lockhart; brothers James Hutcheson and Billy Hutcheson both of Lockhart; sisters Lois Seitz of Lockhart and Mary Ann Zimmerhanzel of Kovar; and grandson, John Eugene Johnson.

Funeral services were held at McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, I Jan. 16, with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial followed at Lockhart City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Skelton, Calvin Watts, Richard Ehrlich, Dennis Zimmerhanzel, Pete Schulze and Ernest E. Ewald, Jr.


PEGGY (CHEATHAM) ALLEN Class of 55

August 25, 1988 Peggy Allen, 51, of Austin, and a member of Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 1988.

Funeral services were Saturday in the Colonial Chapel at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Lamar location with Mr. Howard Stevens and Mr. Roger McCowan officiating. Interment was Saturday at Lockhart City Cemetery in Lockhart.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Ervin Homann of College Station; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Peggy Allen of Lytton Springs; her mother, Dorothy Cheatham of Lockhart; one brother, Robert Cheatham of Lytton Springs; mother-in-law, Reedy Allen of Austin; two grandsons, Joseph Allen and Allen Homann; many brother and sister-in-laws; uncles, aunts; nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; and friends

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Allen and her father, Joe Cheatham.

Pallbearers for the service were Dor Brown, Billy Pruess, Lee Jackson, Don Benton, Jerry Greeson, Ferris Hobbs, Ken Holcomb and Bobby Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice. .
